Philosophical Musings on the New Website

So the new website is set up, and I'm actually really pleased with the results. It at least has a style now, I think before it looked like someone had randomly thrown all the elements together in a panic. Which is in fact an entirely accurate description of my initial attempts at it.

While I was designing the new layout, I ended up having an internal discussion with myself about why I wanted to have a website at all; why have Twitter and Soundcloud and all that? What do I want out of it? I know I don't want it to be marketing as such; we're not a studio and we aren't selling anything. If things ever go well then maybe it's possible, but right now there's no agenda on that front.  So if anyone was actually reading this they'd be pleased to know I won't be spamming the internet with attention seeking links. There seems to be a fine line between trying to share something you've made because you hope people will find it interesting, and just shouting "look at my stuff, look at my stuff". I do not want to be that guy.

I would like to share the site a bit though, get just a few people interested. I think the main reason for setting up all these online profiles is that I'd like to connect with people who have similar interests. I want a way to showcase that I do really make games, even if they are simple hobby-level games. Same with the music, if a chance came up to write a track for a small but more established game then that could be really cool.  I think the process of connecting with people is easier if I can say here's a site full of actual stuff that I have really done.

The other reason is for myself, as I quite often do that thing of thinking "I am terrible and not creative and I should give up!"  Having the site is nice reminder that I have made small games and written soundtracks that I'm proud of, and I should not give up.

So there you go, hopefully the games and music will improve as I get more experience, and if it doesn't lead to anything big then it's still a fun way to spend my free time.
